Staying Connected During COVID-19

Staying Connected during COVID-19

In the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important we all do our part to help flatten the curve. Unfortunately, this means physically distancing ourselves from our jobs, our friends and family, and our daily routines. Humans are social creatures by nature and not being able to interact with anyone outside of our household and our daily routines being changed can be daunting. When we are told to isolate, and we do, we might see a decline in our overall mental health. Working from home may be stressful, parents who have young children trying to navigate online learning may be overwhelmed, and an overall sense of not having control and knowing when this will end can really take a toll on a person.

We live in a time of technology, which has helped us to stay connected and now more than ever technology is a beneficial tool in helping us stay connected.

Some ideas to help maintain a feeling of connectedness:

  • Schedule video chats or phone calls
  • Host a viewing party where everyone watches a TV show or movie at the same time over video chat
  • Make phone calls to neighbors and elderly family members regularly
  • If healthy with no signs of any illness, go for a walk or jog in areas not heavily accessed
  • Foster an animal
  • If you are religious, follow practices at home that provide comfort and strength during this time
  • Stream music concerts when applicable
  • Try to keep as normal a schedule as possible
